The Working Of An Offset Printer
BusinessMany significant operations in a business such as maintaining flow of information within the company and marketing the products of the company need printing service. Therefore, it is good to have some fundamental knowledge of how printing works, particularly offset printing, which is one of the most widely used printing techniques.
Offset printing is so popular among printing service providers and clients because for large quantities, it turns out to be cheaper than alternative methods. The customers giving big printing orders are recommended by the printers to opt for offset printing due to this reason.
The ink used during offset printing has oil as the medium and does not dissolve in water. Its name comes from the fact that in this method, images are not transported directly from the plates to the paper but this is done through rubber blankets as a medium.
The first step is developing the images. When offset printing began, the images had to be developed by the use of film negatives and they were later transferred to aluminum plates. In the current times, the printers can make use of the image setting system for preparing the plates directly. The subsequent step is to attach the plate on to a cylinder in the right manner. Then the water and ink are spread on the image plates, in that order. The image gets the ink while the rest of the area receives a thin film of water, which ensures that the ink does not spill beyond the images.
Next, the image is turned around when it is transmitted to a rubber blanket which is attached to another cylinder. The image is reversed to its right side by transferring the image to sheets that have been cut according to the requirement and are put on a different cylinder.
Printed sheets are stapled, glued, or assembled in any other way as required and the printing company delivers them after giving some finishing touches.
