Berber Beware
Home Improvement March 18th, 2009Consumers are looking for flair and durability, designers are looking for creativity and home builders are looking for the bottom-line$. Don’t be deceived by Berber style carpets, although they look nice and fresh when looking at samples with nice three dimensional patterns and loopy construction they are a disaster waiting to happen.
Knowing what to look for may help you make an informed decision when being in awe of the carpet samples when they feel good to the hand when shopping. Is the construction dense or does it have a wavy feel to it. The softer the carpet the more it is apt to being matted down and looking very different than the low traffic areas which means a distorted overall look and feel.
Berber carpets get damaged very easily when it comes to maintenance and just everyday living. Using a vacuum cleaner to maintain and upkeep your investment sometimes has it disastrous moments and all of a sudden your carpet just unraveled leaving a damaged line of looping missing in this beautiful looking carpet and what do you do next?
Here is a list of areas to watch for when considering Berber carpets. Installation of seams, are the secure or are the seams loose with fibers sticking out. These loose fibers must be trimmed immediately to prevent running and this will avoid costly repairs. Also pets can be a problem since they are naturally inquisitive and like to scrape and play and chew. Am I giving you some clues here? Also watch out for the brushes on your vacuum make sure your brushes are soft and not hard. Just as I finished this article I booked an appointment to save a dog who chewed the Berber carpet.
