Procrastination can be an uphill battle. Here are some techniques to get you started overcoming procrastination.

Do the Jobs You Are Dreading First.

This will boost your self-esteem as you tick off the most difficult task in your to-do list. It will give you a sense of achievement that makes other tasks seem pretty easy to get done.

A to-do list should be kept. Make sure to write your with the most important task at the top. Cross of the tasks as you do them. Your to-do list will keep you focused and organized. There will be no need to waste time trying to figure out what task you need to do next, when you have a well organized to-do list!

The Right Time and Right Mood Will Never Happen. Accept It!

If you keep waiting around for the right time, you are going to be disappointed. The right time never comes! Work is work, and the sooner you accept that the sooner your productivity will increase.

Stop Being a Perfectionist.

Self-esteem is tantamount to a job well done. But some people go to the extent of constantly postponing or delaying work because they feel they are not the best. This will not help with overcoming procrastination!

Often a perfectionist will beat themselves up over trying to get a job done perfectly. Pressuring themselves with unrealistic deadlines and viewing the outcome of their work negatively. This puts a mental barrier in peoples minds – stopping them from getting the task done. Perfectionism actually results in poor work because of their obsession with messing up!

Ironically – the best performers aren’t perfectionists. Why? because they get the job done rather than obsess over messing it up.

If you are a perfectionist. Don’t panic! Take baby steps. Create a realistic action plan for your days. Start your day early so that you don’t feel pressured and can work with a relaxed attitude. An added bonus to starting early is you will have time to check for any errors and review your work.

Get Moving.

If you are sitting down unsure how to start your next task, stand up. This alone can make a lot of difference to your procrastination. Doing something physical is recommended to help increase efficiency.

Go for a walk whenever you can. Clean your desk and get rid of clutter. This creates a forward motion that will keep things going. Doing something rather than slacking builds momentum and jump-starts you up for your project.

Procrastination is not just something we chose to do from time to time. Some people actually suffer from it leading to chronic depression from lack of self-worth. If you are trying to overcome this, be realistic in your goals. Forget about getting a quick-fix. The only way to be successful in getting rid of this behavior is to develop a routine that works for you.
