Today’s technologies are fast changing the ways that we communicate and one of these technologies is voip/telecom. The technology started to be utilized in the last decade but was not commonly used. Many people have found uses for the inexpensive and convenient method of communication.

To explain it easily it is better just to think of voip/telecom as Internet telephone. Your calls are made using broadband lines instead of traditional telephone lines. The main advantage of this type of communication is that it is really cheap. Another advantage is that it has many capabilities. You can use Internet, multiple phone lines, and fax all from the same system.

The most popular characteristic of voip/telecom that really brought it into everyday use was the capability to carry out conference calls simply and at a low cost. Not only can you hold voice conference calls with a large number of callers, you can also have video conference calls.

The conference call feature is not something that has an extra charge attached to it as is often found when using traditional phone lines. These capabilities are also what are attracting small business. They have all the technological capabilities that larger firms would have but at the same price or less as a traditional phone line.

Voip/telecom is met with some challenges however. Some of the obstacles with voip/telecom are problems with dropped calls and voice delays. It is an Internet based technology so it is subject to the same security breaches that your computer can.

Another big obstacles is that the voip/telecom system will not function without an electric source. This isn’t the case with traditionel phone lines. This is not the case with voip/telecom but this, but other small obstacles are overpowered by the attractive price and ease of use.
